The Consumer Electronics Show is in full swing and every company is vying for attention. Engadget was drawn to Corning’s (GLW) booth, where the company was showcasing its third-generation Gorilla Glass, destined for smartphones and tablets around the world. Corning tweaked the chemical and atomic composition of the raw materials in the glass and has made it even more scratch and dent resistant than ever before. In fact, the company demonstrated just how strong its Gorilla Glass 3 really is by dropping a 130-gram ball on to it from different heights to see if it would break. Corning will show off its third-generation Gorilla Glass at CES

It’s almost time for the Consumer Electronics Show, which means that it’s time for Corning (GLW) to announce a new generation of its super-tough Gorilla Glass. Corning said on Thursday that it would formally unveil Gorilla Glass 3 at CES next week and this year the company is promising “a new glass composition with durability enhancements” that will make your laptops, smartphones and tablets even tougher to crack in the coming year. Corning announces ultra-slim flexible Willow Glass

Corning, the makers of Gorilla Glass, on Monday unveiled its new ultra-slim flexible glass technology at the Society for Information Display’s Display Week in Boston. The company’s Willow Glass is roughly the same thickness as a sheet of paper, allowing it to be flexible while retaining normal glass attributes. The technology will enable thinner and lighter devices, and could potentially revolutionize the shape and form of next-generation electronics, including smartphones, tablets, laptops and televisions. “Displays become more pervasive each day and manufacturers strive to make both portable devices and larger displays thinner. Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coming to devices in April or May

Corning announced on Monday that the first shipments of Gorilla Glass 2 have been sent to the company’s partners. Corning’s second-generation of Gorilla Glass is 20% thinner than the original without sacrificing performance or strength. “Corning’s new glass composition, Gorilla Glass 2, enables slimmer and sleeker devices, brighter images, and greater touch sensitivity, providing an ideal solution for the newest, most sophisticated smartphones, tablets, and personal computers,” Corning’s global director of marketing and commercial operations, David R. Velasquez said. The company expects the first Gorilla Glass 2-equipped devices to be available in April or May.
