Polaroid’s Jelly Bean tablets could give Google a run for its money

Post Image

Polaroid isn’t typically a name that comes to mind when people think of Android. While the company has released a few Android-powered cameras, it has never fully embrace the operating system. Times are changing, however, and the iconic company is doing its best to survive in a new world. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada this week, Polaroid announced two new Android tablets that look to compete with Google’s (GOOG) Nexus devices. The 7-inch and 10-inch devices both include 1280 x 800-pixel IPS displays, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, a microSD slot and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The smaller M7 tablet is equipped with a dual-core processor and 8GB of internal storage, while the M10 features a quad-core CPU,

But for the consumer who wants a slightly more flexible photography experience that acts a bit more like your traditional DSLR, the Polaroid iM1835 might be your answer. [...]

Leak reveals Polaroid’s Android-powered camera with interchangeable lenses

Post Image

Samsung’s (005930) Galaxy Camera and Nikon’s (NINOY) Coolpix S800c are just the beginning of a swath of Android-powered cameras. Newly leaked images and specs point to Polaroid reviving its camera business with what could be the world’s first Android camera with interchangeable lenses. With no official name yet, the tentatively named IM1836 camera will reportedly feature a 18.1-megapixel sensor, 3.5-inch touchscreen, pop-up flash, Wi-Fi, HDMI and Android 4.0. The Galaxy Camera and Coolpix S800c do a fine job taking pictures that are considerably better than what you get from a smartphone, but they still can’t match a mirrorless camera with a good lens. At first glance, Polaroid’s camera looks to be a rebadged Nikon 1 J2, but the resemblance only runs skin deep, as PhotoRumors reports the camera only

Polaroid hasn’t got much more than Lady Gaga going for it at the moment and even that partnership is questionably fruitful at best. So, when we stopped by the company’s booth here at MWC to check out its Spectrum line of Android tablets, our bar was a…
